| The
Showtime series Brothers becomes one of the first shows with a gay major
character. The series opened with Clifford (Paul Regina) announcing to his
two brothers that he's gay, and dealt with AIDS, coming out and men
kissing men. ABC and NBC rejected the series before it found a home on
cable.
Show Description: "Joe Waters is an ex-place kicker for the New York Jets. Now retired, he's opened up a restaurant. Lou is his older brother, a gruff construction worker. Both Joe and Lou receive the shock of their lives when their kid brother Cliff reveals that he's gay. Humorous situations follow as Joe and Lou alternately try to accept Cliff's homosexuality or cure him of it."
